Donations from Haven Holidays reaches milestone

Motability celebrated a milestone of £400,000 in donations from Haven Holidays at their site in Rockley Park, Poole on Monday. Representatives from Motability and Haven Holidays were also joined by Motability customer David Hawkins, from Lincoln, who travelled to the park in his Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle that he leases through the Motability Scheme.

For every discounted booking made by a Motability Scheme customer, Haven makes a donation to Motability, to support its Charitable Grant Fund, which directly benefits disabled people. Motability and Haven Holidays have been in partnership for more than 10 years and their total donation has now reached £400,000.

David, who has rheumatoid arthritis, has been a Motability Scheme customer for 10 years. His current vehicle has been adapted with a ramp to accommodate his electric wheelchair.

He said: “My life has improved so much since I joined the Scheme. It has given me back my independence as I am able to take part in my hobbies that I am so enthusiastic about, such as fishing, watching football matches and visiting other parts of the country.

Warren Smith, David and Ruth Kemplen with donation cheque and car“It’s great to be here at Haven, as their holiday parks provide me with full accessibility to all of their facilities, and their staff are so respectful. I am pleased to see that they support Motability so generously, especially given I use my car to regularly visit their parks around the country.”

Ruth Kemplen, Account Manager for Haven, said: “We have a long- standing relationship with this fantastic charity as we have now been working together for over 10 years. The charity makes a huge difference to disabled people and their families across the UK, which makes the £400,000 we have raised even more special, so we look forward to helping contribute even more in the future.”

Warren Smith, Corporate Trading Partnership Executive for Motability, said: “We are thrilled that our partnership with Haven has raised £400,000 for Motability. We are extremely grateful to Haven for their fantastic support, and it is great to see that our customers, like David, enjoy visiting their parks. Their generous donation will support Scheme customers who cannot afford the right car or adaptations for their needs, or to help young disabled people with driving lessons.”

Motability’s charitable work relies on voluntary income and aims to raise around £2.8 million each year to help customers who would otherwise be unable to afford the mobility solution they need. This income is raised through charitable trust and foundation donations, corporate support, individual fundraising and from trading activities.
