Motability’s Road to 45

Tuesday, 06 December 2022

This year we’re celebrating how we’ve helped disabled people to make the journeys they choose for 45 years.

And we’re determined to do even more.

Our oversight of the Motability Scheme, together with our research and innovation, means that we will continue to work towards making transport more accessible for disabled people for years to come.

Here are just some of our highlights from the last 45 years

From our formation in 1977 to support disabled people to get an affordable vehicle using their Mobility Allowance, to the recent launch of the world-leading BSI standard for accessible electric vehicle charging, we’ve been there.

Watch our short animation to discover our highlights and our ‘Road to 45’.

The future is looking bright

What does the future look like for Motability?

  • Supporting other charities and organisations with grant funding
  • Supporting more disabled people with grant funding
  • Continuing to support access to electric vehicles and accessible electric vehicle infrastructure
  • A commitment to innovation and research

Barry Le Grys MBE, Chief Executive Officer of Motability says:

“Motability has grown from strength to strength over our remarkable 45-year history.

“We have a strong vision and sense of purpose, which has been at the foundation of our growth.

“We have supported disabled people with their mobility for over four decades, and we aren’t stopping here.

“As the world of transportation advances, we too are determined to evolve and further support Motability Scheme customers and our beneficiaries to ensure they aren’t left behind.

“As well as focusing on their transport needs now, we are also looking at the longer term and next generations to grow and expand our purpose, ensuring we continue to make a real difference well into the future.”
