Minister for Disabled People Justin Tomlinson MP presents keys of Motability Scheme car to constituent

Justin Tomlinson, Minister for Disabled People and MP for Swindon North, presented the keys of a new Motability Scheme car to his constituent Madge Trinder on Thursday 20 August. The presentation took place at Pebley Beach Swindon, Paddington Drive.

Madge, 76, from Swindon, has arthritis and has had one shoulder and two hip replacements. She collected the keys of a Hyundai i10 that she will lease for three years. Madge enjoys an active life in the community, and her new car will support her to remain mobile.

She said: “The Motability Scheme is marvellous. Using my Disability Living Allowance to lease a new car on the Scheme is so much easier, as it means I can travel safely and in comfort. I enjoy being independent and Motability plays a big part in supporting me with this.

“My new car is a dream to drive. It has automatic transmission with power steering, which is wonderful as I sometimes have difficulty moving my arms.”

Justin Tomlinson MP said: “I am delighted to have presented Madge with the keys to her new Motability Scheme vehicle here in my constituency. As Minister for Disabled People I understand the importance of the Motability Scheme across the UK, so it’s fantastic to see first-hand how the Scheme supports those in my constituency.”

Declan O’Mahony, Director of Motability, commented: “We would like to thank Justin Tomlinson for supporting the Motability Scheme. We are proud to have transformed the lives of more than four million disabled people since 1977 and we look forward to supporting the personal mobility of many more in the future.”
