How we helped Kathleen

Kathleen has arthritis and has had both hips replaced. Her husband Graham is also disabled and they are no longer able to work.

Kathleen approached Motability and they were able to help her with the Advance Payment for a suitable car, plus the cost of a hoist to lift an electric wheelchair into the car. Her car now has the space to accommodate her husband’s wheelchair, her scooter and a walking frame.

Kathleen’s passion is her voluntary work, she says: “Despite the difficulties my disability brings, I try to live life to the full and I am so pleased I can continue my hobby as secretary of the Elland Silver Band, especially working with our young members, it brings me great pleasure. Having a car like this, that meets my needs, makes life a lot easier.”

“It also means we can visit our children whenever we want and we’re both looking forward to taking trips out to our favourite places, like Blackpool, Pately Bridge and the Dales. I’m having a knee replacement soon and it’s no exaggeration to say that my car is my legs.”
