Find the information and resources you need to help advise disabled people and their families about the Motability Scheme.

How the Scheme works

The Motability Scheme enables disabled people to use their government-funded mobility allowance to lease a new car, scooter or powered wheelchair every three years, or a Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle (WAV) every five years.

Who can join?

Anyone who receives one of the following and has at least 12 months' award remaining:

  • The Higher Rate Mobility Component of the Disability Living Allowance (DLA)
  • The Enhanced Rate Mobility Component of Personal Independence Payment (PIP)
  • The War Pensioners' Mobility Supplement (WPMS)
  • The Armed Forces Independence Payment (AFIP)
